Stereocure is thrilled to introduce Think, the solo project of Minnesota beatsmith and sound artist Tom Kearney. One of the many reasons we love Think’s work is that like a lot of the 1990s instrumental hip-hop that has influenced its sound, much of the music is created, produced, and performed on a classic Roland SP-404 sampler. Despite this stripped-down setup, Think’s Solstice EP reaches incredible heights, combining drum machine hooks with found-sound abstraction to create a truly original production style. Ethereal chords float over trip-hop hysteria, cerebral rhythms fuse with synth-pop bliss, the music dives, crashes, comes up for air, spirals again into its own depths—you won’t be able to decide if you should dance or meditate. Either way, you’ll love the music of Think, an artist that brings together past and future in the Stereocure family.
